This year a number of students from the Brighton Bay Art, Design & Photography program attended four Friday afternoon workshops @ Signal.
Students worked with the Macintosh iPad to create drawings. The results were rear projected onto the Signal glass window over a few nights in November. Some images were also on display @ the Graduation Show.
Patrick Snelling, Program Director at RMIT today gave a presentation to staff and students about the Bachelor of Textile Design at RMIT Brunswick. He showed student work, gave descriptions and examples of the collaborative ways students’ work in the degree and profiles of successful graduates. The course allows students to work closely with industry and undertake work placements and exchange programs overseas. Many ex Brighton Bay students have gone on to study Textile Design over the years. This year’s crop of students were enthusiastic to know more about the course from Patrick and a number intend to apply for the course.

In Week 27 Ceramics Teacher at Brighton Bay, Silvia Mascheck, gave an inspirational lecture to students and staff about her journey in life and art. She gave a detailed account of her experience of travel, discovery, inspirations, education and art. She also spoke of her recent residency in Tokoname, Aichi, Japan.
Silvia spoke about her VCA graduate work, ‘Life is Curved’ which was installed in McLelland Gallery in 2001.
Recent work from Silvia’s residency in Japan was on display in the Ceramics room for students to look at after the lecture. She also had visual diaries and a folio of printmaking, drawing and other work to show.
Thank you Silvia for sharing your journey.

Lachie Marshall – 1st year Monash Industrial Design
Its a bit strange coming back here, when it feels like just the other day i was listening to older students talk about their time at uni. I hope that i was able to give some form of insight to the students and help them with their future design/art aspirations. good luck to everyone!
